Rose-Mary Walls                                                                             < Back

Rose-Mary Walls, the mother of Jeanette Walls & wife of Rex Walls. When Rose-Mary & Rex had children, they decided to live nomadically and apart from society in order to raise their children as they thought was best. They lived in many places, such as Las Vegas, the Mojave Desert, Phoenix, Battle Mountain, but they eventually settled in Welch.

Despite her frequent contentions with her husband, primarily about his alcoholism and religious beliefs , Rose-Mary remained with her husband until he died. She employed herself as a teacher, but her true passion was to paint, which she did her whole life. After her children moved to New York City, which they did shortly before graduating, She and her husband followed them, where they lived apart for several years so her husband could pursue employment and she could pursue her art. When she convinced her Rex to leave his job so they could start living together, they eventually lost their home and lived in an abandoned building. After her husband died of a heart attack, she eventually bought the building where she lived with him for 15$, and continued to live there with other squatters.
